Located 5 kilometers from Dubrovnik in a long bay with three settlements. The largest settlement, Veliki Zaton, is on the western side, and Mali Zaton is on the north-eastern side. Because of the sheltered position and beautiful beaches it is famous resort of people from Dubrovnik. Many noble families and rich citizens of Dubrovnik (Saraka, Sorkocevic, Kaboga, Gucetic, Mencetic, Palmotic, etc.) had their summer residences there. In the Soline cove were salt-pans. Beside the village Pobrezje, 4.5 kilometers from Mali Zaton, is Mociljska Cave with stalactites and stalagmites.
